• Less Goodbyes and More Hello's

An important family lunch at the Besters ALWAYS involves roast potatoes.  I just wish this picture could give you the slightest sense of how amazing they are – crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.  It’s become my father’s signature dish.

On Sunday, the occasion was important because it would be the last full family lunch for a while - My cousin, his wife and their two kids were 24 hours away from moving to London.

When I was younger, I felt as though we were a massive family – I’m not actually sure why – it just felt that way. Over the years, the numbers seem to have dwindled dramatically. Family have immigrated to Australia, New Zealand and now the UK.

While it wasn’t goodbye forever - (They’ll visit, we’ll visit) – It was still sad.  Sad because there will be no more impromptu get togethers, Sunday braai’s and birthday celebrations.  Communication will be via Facebook, skype, e-mails, telephone calls, etc…  Rather than around the table laughter, debates and general family irritations ;)

Good Luck Boonzaiers, I hope you settle in quickly, we miss you already.

I found the following quotes on the internet:

“So many faces in and out of my life; some will last, some will be just now and then. Life is a series of hellos and good byes, I'm afraid it's time for goodbye again.”

“I've learned that good-byes will always hurt, pictures will never replace having been there, memories good and bad will bring tears, and words can never replace feelings.”

“Why can't we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then just stay together? I guess that wouldn't work. Someone would leave. Someone always leaves. Then we would have to say good-bye. I hate good-byes. I know what I need. I need more hellos.”

Today, my wish for all of you, is less Good-byes and more Hello’s.
