• The Summer Is Magic

I love December. I love that everyone is happy, bronzed and ready to have a good time.

    Disclaimer:
Of course this doesn’t apply to anyone with any Christmas shopping left (Like I do), or anyone that’s stuck in any sort of traffic at this time of the year – What’s the rush?
Bronze tans are for people that have sunshine on weekends and not only Monday to Friday while they’re in the office. (Thanks Mother Nature – enough now)
Joke: How do you know its Monday in Cape Town – The sun is shining and the wind has stopped.

Back to the good news. There are plenty reasons to be social – Concerts, office parties, Christmas parties… It’s also time to dress up and enjoy wedding season. This month I’ll be at three weddings – Two of which, I’m photographing.

Time is limited and if I’m not behind a camera or a computer, I’m doing my utmost to get to the beach – which is ironic since I have an irrational fear of being taken by a great white. Hmmm.

Anyway, this was the case on Friday evening. I had grand delusions of a romantic picnic. Clifton 4th beach, a blanket, liquid refreshments, strawberries, cheese, crackers, a game of scrabble and amazing company.  [The amazing company was real, not an illusion ;) ]

Instead, after the drive through the mad impatient traffic (sorry about that, I didn’t want to miss the sunset) it seemed everyone .. well, had the same idea. So we parked and walked for miles, disappeared down the stairway to paradise and made our way to a spot close to the water’s edge. Unpacked, sat down to relax and take it all in….. and that’s when it hit me. Seriously. The sand. It hit me. The other thing Cape Town is famous for is the South Easter…. And Clifton it seemed, wasn’t escaping its wrath on Friday.

So we tried our best to enjoy the amazing setting – Wow – It really doesn’t get better than that… I’d show you a picture, but by the time I was able to change lenses in that sand storm, we’d had enough and left to amuse ourselves elsewhere… Like Sea Point – Where the wind wasn’t blowing.

Once the sun had set, on the way home, we shot through the city centre to take a look at the lights in Adderley Street.

So while I love December for what it brings, I prefer February when the wind dies down and the madness has left. Regardless of the month. It remains constant. I love Cape Town.
