Inspira{shown}
As time allows, I patrol the internet looking at the work of various photographers - Admiring their style, their ideas, their brilliance. It was during this ritual I stumbled upon the work of Seattle based photographer Andria Lindquist .
I was literally blown away by her creativity, drive and passion. I scrolled through her pages and was intrigued by the subject of one of her themes - inspira{shown}. It was an interesting play on the word inspiration. Clever.
I read up about it and right now, I invite you to do the same. Read Andria's Blog Entry
How amazing is that?
I wanted in. I gave how I'd approach it some thought and then composed an e-mail to Andria – Telling her I loved the idea and wanted to give it a shot. I fired it off and she replied. She said, YES. Do it.
She actually said a little more than that, and in doing so confirmed my suspicion that she is in fact, an amazing individual. I love it when that happens.
So thats how this came about and this is what I'll be doing with your help.
The project both inspires and scares me. Inspires me because I want to be involved in the process and I want to tell the story. Show the story. Scares me because I want to do it well. I want you to read it and be inspired by what people accomplish, achieve or survive. People like you and me.
So now it’s over to you. If you know of a Capetonian (for the time being) that inspires you, and you feel their story should be told, please let me know. If all the elements are aligned, I'll meet them, listen to and record their story and capture it in pictures at no charge. (Almost like a day in the life of ... ). Come on, let’s see if we can make something amazing happen.
A recap from Andria’s site. The principle behind Inspira{shown} is:
“a story that needs to be told. a story and person that needs to be honored. a spirit that must be captured. where someone who reads this blog knows of someone. or someone they know knows someone. and they nominate them. tell me their story and why they are an inspiration and i get to meet, listen, talk, plan and shoot with them. share their story here. honor them. and inspire others. “
Here are the guidelines.
1) You must nominate them. (and not tell them you did so)
2) Send me their story and why they inspire you and others in one page or less.
3) Include their contact info: email and phone.
4) Nominations can be sent in and I will notify you and them if selected.
5) All the information should be sent to ( info@darrenbester.co.za ) with "Inspira{shown}" in the headline.
It's exciting right. I look forward to hearing from you ;)
